All 2024 Giving Day Featured Funds

Not sure where you'd like to give? Here's a list of all our priority funds for Giving Day 2024

Students sometimes find that they experience financial crises that prevent them from successfully continuing their social work program. This fund provides immediate assistance with basic necessities to be able to continue.

  1. Indigenous Strategy Initiative

The Faculty of Social Work is working with an Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers Advisory group to create and implement a strategy to ensure the Faculty is serving First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities in a good way.

  2. Jackie Sieppert Excellence Award in Social Innovation

This scholarship is named in honour of current professor Dr. Jackie Sieppert who was formerly the Dean of Social Work for a decade. The award supports graduate students who use progressive and innovative tools to solve complex social issues.

  3. Anti-Racism Equity Action Impact Fund

Our faculty is working to reduce racism, increase equity, and to celebrate the rich diversity that leads to a vibrant society. Your donation supports work being done in our faculty.

  4. Dave Este Excellence Graduate Scholarship

This scholarship honours the many contributions and legacy of Dr. David Este to the profession of social work and reflects his desire to support diversity and equity in the profession.

  5. Faculty of Social Work Impact Fund

Not sure which fund to donate to? By supporting the Faculty of Social Work Impact Fund your donation will go to areas where it’s most needed. This includes vital programs, scholarships, and the research initiatives.

  6. Anti-Muslim Racism and Islamophobia in Canada Fund

Dr. Aamir Jamal’s national research program studies the tremendous impact of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism on Canadian Muslims.  The research is leading to recommendations that will better inform groups in education, community, and government on how to effectively address the diverse and urgent challenges facing Canadian Muslims.

  7. Dr. Robbie Babins-Wagner Graduate Scholarship in Social Work Endowment

This scholarship celebrates Robbie’s significant role in developing the Calgary Counselling Centre and her commitment to graduate social work education and evidence-informed research, focused on improving counselling outcomes. This award is for social work students completing a research or clinical practicum at Calgary Counselling Centre.

  8. Dr. Jacqueline S. Ismael Memorial fund

This fund celebrates long time faculty member, and international thought-leader, Dr. Jacqueline S. Ismael. Funds will be used to support a lecture series focused on the true cost of conflict on those who pay the steepest price: women, children, and other innocents.

  9. Tim and Lil Tyler Bursary

Dr. Tim F.H. Tyler was the visionary Dean of the Faculty of Social Welfare (Social Work) from 1966 - 1978. Lil Tyler, his wife, also made many contributions to the field of social work, most notably as Executive Director, Family Life Education Council, Calgary, AB.
